What to Expect on Installation Day – And how to Prepare?

Getting a new wood floor can be exciting — it’s the final step in transforming your room and making it feel complete. But we know installation day can also feel a little daunting and stressful if you’re not sure what to expect. That’s why we’ve put together this simple guide / checklist to help you prepare your home and understand exactly what will happen on the day. From the small things you can do beforehand, to how the installation process works, we’ll walk you through it all so there are no surprises — just a beautiful new floor at the end.

Before Installation Day – Preparing Your Home

A little preparation can make a big difference to how smoothly the day runs. Here are a few simple steps you can take in advance:

Clear the space
Move furniture, rugs, and any fragile items from the installation area. While we can help if needed (which we can discuss in advance whilst arranging the installation), having the space clear before we arrive means we can get straight to work. We always recommend using your own expert movers so you are properly insured against damage especially if you have vintage or heavy furniture.

Check the flooring area
If your old flooring is being removed, make sure you know whether that’s part of our service or something you’ve arranged separately.

Access & parking
Ensure there’s a suitable place for us to park and unload materials, ideally close to the property. This helps us avoid delays and heavy lifting over long distances.

Pets & children
For safety, it’s best to keep pets and little ones out of the installation area. If possible, arrange for them to be in another room or better yet, out for the day.

Temperature & humidity
Wood flooring benefits from being installed in stable conditions. Keep your home at a comfortable temperature in the days leading up to the installation so the materials can acclimatise properly.

Installation Day – What to Expect

When the big day arrives, here’s how things will typically go:

Arrival & set-up
We’ll arrive at the agreed time, walk you through the plan for the day, and put protective coverings in place to look after surrounding areas.

Noise & dust
Installing a wood floor involves sawing, hammering, and moving tools around — so some noise and dust are perfectly normal. We’ll use dust sheets and extraction equipment to keep things as clean as possible.

Communication
We may check in with you during the process — for example, to confirm the direction of the boards, finishing details, or to discuss any unexpected issues we uncover.

Breaks & pacing
It’s physical work, so we may take short breaks, but the team will keep things moving steadily to get the job done efficiently.

End-of-day tidy-up
Once the floor is in place, we’ll tidy the area, remove waste, and leave you with advice on how to look after your new floor from day one.

Working Together

We understand that having tradespeople in your home can feel disruptive, but please don’t worry — we always handle the process with care and respect for your space. Our team is here to make the experience as smooth as possible, answer any questions you might have, and guide you through each step. By the end of the project, all you’ll need to do is stand back and admire your new floor.
